What is a medical marijuana appointment like?
As the Ohio medical marijuana registry and dispensaries get closer to opening and we begin to see more patients, I am finding that many of our patients are pleasantly surprised at what a typical appointment includes and it makes me think that I should take some time to explain what we usually do.
We schedule 30 minute appointments but typically communicate with our patients by phone or email prior to their appointment so that we can make the time as useful as possible. We take a few minutes to review any medical records and current medications, do a brief physical exam, and collect the information needed to register a patient for their card. The rest of the appointment is devoted to understanding what type of medical problems our patients are dealing with, what they’ve tried in the past, and their prior experience with cannabis if any. We make specific recommendations regarding CBD:THC ratios, strain dominance, terpene profiles, and dosages based on available research and a decade of experience with medical marijuana in other states. We also attend to diet, activity, meditation, supplements, and other integrative treatments that may be helpful. Our physicians are board certified in integrative medicine and can often offer useful information on complimentary and alternative therapies that may be helpful when appropriate.
When you see our physicians, our hope is to establish a continuing relationship with you and offer ongoing help and suggestions as needed. You physician, Dr Short or Dr pope, remains available for you throughout the year and for your renewal when needed.
I enjoy talking to patients about marijuana. For most of my career and in many places that I work currently, talking about marijuana and it’s healing properties is frowned upon or prohibited. The times are certainly changing and I enjoy the opportunity to freely discuss one of the safest and most powerful medicines that nature has given us. We have appointments available this week. Please contact us with any questions. Emails sent through the following link can only be seen by our physicians and we are happy to answer questions about the process or your eligibility for medical marijuana.
